A Microbrewery Revolution...

In 1978, President Jimmy Carter signed a law that made home-brewing legal. The small brewery, now called a "microbrewery," emerged and flourished. Many home brewers became professional brewers. Arizona's first microbrewery was Electric Dave's Brewery, opened by Dave Harvan in Bisbee. The first brewpub (with an attached restaurant), was Bandersnatch in Tempe. By 1990, the number of breweries in the United States had risen to 286 and was quickly on the rise, reaching 1,147 in 1999. For the first time in history all fifty states had operating breweries.
The rise of the craft brewery spawned a beer renaissance which provided an abundance of new styles from which the consumer could choose from. As microbreweries flourished during the 1990s, so did the number of people who sought better quality brews. The artisan aspect of beer rose with the help of craft beer festivals, beer related publications, websites, blogs, beer tastings and food pairings. The subtleties of hand-made-craft-brewed beer, is now measured much like wine. Today, a subculture of beer enthusiasts hold an unyielding obsession for better tasting beers.
